How to use it
The Inuit Hunter is available from the Commerce Age in the Trading Post at an Inuit native settlement. He gains more range from successful hunts and specializes in fighting Outlaws, Pets, Mercenaries and other Native warriors. In the Fortress Age, the powerful Inuit Qamutik becomes available to fight off cavalry. Once the ‘Qimmiit’ technology has been researched, fallen Qamutiks disintegrate into Inuit Hunters and Huskies. Huskies can pick up treasures and steal resource crates.
History
Inuit life centered on hunting, essential for survival in the harsh Arctic environment. As semi-nomadic hunters, they relied on seals, caribou, walrus, and whales, meticulously utilizing every animal part for food, oil, clothing, and tools. While primarily for subsistence, Inuit groups engaged in warfare over hunting grounds and trade. Thus, many traditional hunting tools like the harpoon doubled as weapons against groups like the Dene and Cree. Some hunters used a wooden spear-thrower – comparable to the Mesoamerican atlatl – to increase range. Specialized weapons included the war club and the cable-backed bow. The Inuit subsistence economy demanded robust mobility and the Qamutik dog sled was the most efficient way to transport large amounts of meat over snow and ice. These sleds, pulled by dog teams, were constructed from Arctic materials like driftwood and whalebone. For hunting and seasonal migration on water, the single-man kayak and the larger 'umiak' were indispensable.
