How to use it
The Bagpiper is a native ranged infantry unit and available in the Trading Post at a palace of the House of Stuart. Although armed with a pistol, the Bagpiper’s true weapon is the rousing sound of his instrument. Its psychological effect increases the hitpoints of nearby infantry units while decreasing the damage of nearby enemy infantry.
History
The Great Highland Bagpipe is a Scottish woodwind with an iconic, powerful sound. It is produced by forcing air from a bag through a melodic chanter and harmonizing drones. Historically, the bagpipes served as a martial instrument for the Scottish clansmen, where specific tunes acted as battlefield signals, relaying commands across the noise and chaos of combat. Its high, penetrating sound was a potent psychological weapon, often used to intimidate enemies and rally Highland troops. Until the Jacobites’ defeat at the Battle of Culloden in 1746 bagpipes were common in Scottish armies. After a long period of quiet, bagpipes were eventually reintroduced by the British to bolster the morale of their valued Highland regiments. As a result, the musical customs of these regiments eventually influenced many regions across the former British Empire.
