How to use it

The Lowlander is a native Musketeer unit that can mount a horse to become a Lowland Dragoon. It is available in the Commerce Age at the Trading Post to anyone who has allied with the House of Stuart by building a Trading Post on one of their palaces. Lowlanders and Lowland Dragoons use a long spear with increased range in melee combat. Both are vulnerable to Skirmishers.

History

During the tumultuous Wars of the Three Kingdoms in 17th century Britain the Scottish House of Stuart tried to restore its claim to the throne. The Royalist army was primarily an infantry force recruited from the Scottish lowlands and drilled in conventional pike-and-shot tactics. The Lowland army found itself in a bitter rivalry against the Covenanters, an equally well-drilled adversary from the Scottish Presbyterian population. Much like the Covenanter’s Scots Lancers the Stuarts also fielded small contingents of cavalry armed with pistols and lances.
