How to use it
The Harpooner is an outlaw unit available at the Tavern, Saloon, and Monastery from the Commerce Age onwards. It fires a harpoon that slows down the target and inflicts bleeding damage. The Harpooner is good against cavalry and his special harpoon grenade attack inflicts damage in an area and stuns the target.
History
By the 18th century, whaling was a global enterprise fueled by hardened mariners from hubs like Nantucket. In the Arctic, whalers navigated dangerous, ice-clogged waters to pursue species like the bowhead whale. Ship crews were often protected by cork lifejackets and waterproof Sou'wester hats. Early hunting relied on hand-thrown, barbed harpoons designed to hook firmly beneath blubber, tethering the whale to the boat via rope. This perilous struggle between man and leviathan birthed legends like Moby Dick, inspired by the real-life sinking of the Essex. Later, explosive-tipped harpoon cannons replaced manual tools. While once a vital industry, whaling is now mostly banned, with whales protected as symbols of biodiversity rather than commodities.
