How to use it
The Whaling Ship is a versatile naval Outlaw available at the Dock or Port. It can gather resources from fish and whales, but also train Outlaws and Fishing Boats. While not initially designed for naval combat, the Whaling Ship’s harpoon attacks inflict damage over time and can pierce through multiple targets to eliminate competitors. Its special Grenade Harpoon ability inflicts area damage and temporarily demobilizes its target.
History
By the 18th century, whaling was a global enterprise fueled by hardened mariners from hubs like Nantucket. In the Arctic, whalers navigated dangerous, ice-clogged waters to pursue species like the bowhead whale. Ship crews were often protected by cork lifejackets and waterproof Sou'wester hats. Early hunting relied on hand-thrown, barbed harpoons designed to hook firmly beneath blubber, tethering the whale to the boat via rope. This perilous struggle between man and leviathan birthed legends like Moby Dick, inspired by the real-life sinking of the Essex. Later, explosive-tipped harpoon cannons replaced manual tools. While once a vital industry, whaling is now mostly banned, with whales protected as symbols of biodiversity rather than commodities.
